7 useful drupal modules for beginners

Drupal is always considered a CMS with steep learning curve. However if you start out with some best and easy to use modules then the learning process gets simpler.

I have compiled a list of 7 excellent modules that comes in handy for beginners.


Views is an excellent module with over 900,00 installs and still counting. It has also been included as a part of drupal 8 core. Primary purpose of views module is to display content in a nice/custom format that can be configured easily via views UI.

2. Panels

Panels helps the site administrators to create highly customized layouts for site pages. It has a lot of other excellent features and has been installed on over 200,000 sites.

3. Webform

Fantastic and easy to use module for creating custom forms. It allows user to create forms via UI and requires zero coding. It also has a lot of other features such as sending receipts, auto reply, notify administrators,etc when the form is submitted.

4. CKEditor

Ckeditor is a module that replaces textarea with rich text editor called CKEditor. It is a WYSIWYG(What you see is what you get) editor making it extremely easy to format content even if you don't know html.


IMCE is a image/file uploader. IMCE allows user to have personal file directories. This module in combination with CKEditor is an excellent feature.

6. Rules

A very powerful module that can be used to trigger actions when different site events occur. For e.g, if you want to send an email or display a message to user as soon as the user is logged in to the site then you can use rules module. It requires no coding.

7. Display suite

Display Suite allows you to take full control over how your content is displayed using a drag and drop interface.You can create different view modes for nodes that too without coding.
